This past weekend, my friend Michelle and I had what would be described as a girl’s weekend. We not only visited the Disney parks, but we had a hotel room where we could just sit, chat, and relax. Honestly, I had been looking forward to this weekend for quite some time.
But then all of sudden on Friday evening, I began to feel bad, real bad. After eating dinner, it became quite clear that I was not going to be my normal self.
Saturday, we spent the day at the Magic Kingdom with my husband and another friend and while I had fun, I was still hurting. Then Sunday, it just got worse. So much worse that I had to leave the park and crash out for some time at the hotel.
Really, this is not what I had planned. Instead of the weekend going as I would have liked it to have gone, my body and schedule were thrown for a loop. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
But through this disappointment, God was speaking to me. I couldn’t help but to have this question roaming around in my head…. “how are you going to handle this life interruption….with gratitude or an attitude?”
I’m sure you can relate as I imagine that you too have had times in your life where what you had planned, did not go as you had hoped. Instead a curveball was thrown your way. Even more so, some of you may feel as though your life is not quite what you had hoped it would have been; it’s not the life that you would have ordered.
Maybe as a child/teenager who you had big dreams and aspirations of what your life would look like and then before you knew it, things got crazy and you found yourself living a life that you had never dreamed of (and I don’t mean this in a good way). Maybe you feel as though your life has had more disappointments than good times. If so, you are not alone.
Today you may be asking, “when things don’t go as planned, what do I do?” You may also be feeling overwhelmed, unappreciated, unlucky, and just plain tired. If there is one thing I want you to know is that deep down inside I know that God has better things for you.
So today, let me share with you some tips that will help you get back on your feet so that you can live the life that you were meant for and in turn, see your days filled with joy, strength, energy, and a passion for life!
Gratitude or attitude? – For each one of us, we have the choice to choose how we will respond to the things that take place in our lives. We can either choose to have an attitude, thus having a pity party for ourselves, or we can choose to look at the bright side, the good things that are taking place in our lives. No matter who you are or what you have gone through, you will always have the opportunity to choose to focus on the positive. Even if it is just thanking God for your morning caffeine.
So let me encourage you today to choose gratitude over an attitude.
Superwoman anyone? -I don’t know what it is, but as women we tend to get caught up in the thinking that we have to do it all. Can I be honest with you? This is a lie….you do not have to do everything on your own; God created use for community and relationships. God never intended for you to be alone, or for you to try to do it all.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and just plain worn out on a daily basis, why not take a look at your life and see if you have been trying to do everything on your own. If so, reach out. There is no shame is asking others for help. Once you do, your life will begin to look different.
Open up the floodgates-Sometimes, we just need to cry. When life throws you a curveball, know that it’s ok to cry and get it out. For many of us, we tend to believe that we need to hold it all in, to be strong. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. It’s ok to cry, get it done and then move on.
So today, I give you permission to just allow the tears to flow freely and know that once you do, you will begin to feel a release like no other.
Focus on the how instead of the why-For many, when life takes a different path than what we would have liked, we spend so much time focusing on the why, when the reality is, we should be focusing on the how…How can I learn from this experience and use it for good in the future. Instead of consistently asking, “Why did this happen to me, why am I going through this”, etc., focus on how you can take what you have experienced to serve others and impact this world like never before.
View obstacles differently; challenges to greatness-Today, I want you to begin viewing the obstacles that you face differently. Instead of seeing them as these “annoying” things that you are having to go through, view those obstacles as challenges, challenges that will allow you to step into your greatness. Honestly, it all comes down to your mindset, how you will choose to think about the curveballs that come your way. Again, you have the opportunity to choose how you will respond to everything that comes your way. Begin today to see the good in every situation!
Your dream is worth pursuing-Lastly, if there is one thing I want you to know, it is that your dream is worth pursuing! God has given you specific dreams for a reason. Don’t allow the circumstances of your life to keep you from moving forward into the calling that God has placed on your life. Remember, when you choose to not follow the call on your life, the world is at a loss. God has given you specific gifts, skills, and talents so that you can impact this world like never before. Your dream is worth pursuing and God would love nothing more than to show up in some big ways in your life. Give Him the opportunity by choosing to step out in faith when He calls you!
Know today that I believe in you and want nothing more than to see you living life like never before. Know today that you are loved and though life may not have gone as you would have liked it to have gone, there is a future and hope for you. Don’t ever give-up; just keep pushing forward because God wants to move like never before!
Praying many blessings upon you!
